If your startup item is in the startup folder you'll want a logon script that says something like this: del C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\ If you use a user policy to adjust Local Machine, you may risk not having permissions to the location. If you make a computer policy that runs against Current User I think it adjusts the SYSTEM user. I think it's probably best to make sure it's a computer policy if it's in HKLM, and a user policy if it's in HKCU.
